Skill with Heart: The Native American Woman Weaving a Basket
Your child can have lots of fun with all the lovely details here. The woven strips of the basket invite a closer look, the traditional dress offers plenty of room for patterns and decorations, and in the background a few twigs or grasses might be waiting to be colored in. A motif that invites you to linger and discover.
Coloring Tip: Natural Tones with Little Pops of Color
For the basket itself, warm earth tones work especially well, so different shades of brown, a bit of beige and a touch of ochre. That way the weave looks wonderfully alive, almost as if you could feel the individual fibers. For the woman's dress, feel free to use bolder colors, such as reddish brown, turquoise or a rich yellow, nicely accented with small geometric patterns in a contrasting color.
If you like, you can make up a little story while coloring, for example what the finished basket might be used for, perhaps for berries, for corn, or for little treasures found along the path. You can download this coloring page quickly and free of charge and print it out at home at your leisure on a normal A4 sheet. Then all you need are some crayons, a cozy corner, and the basket weaving in color can begin.
