Northern Lights Over the Mountains: a coloring page for little night owls
Here your child can discover sweeping bands of light, sharp mountain peaks, a clear starry sky, and maybe a few little fir trees at the foot of the mountains. Plenty of space for calm lines, but also enough detail so that more experienced little artists won't get bored.
Coloring idea: From light to dark
A lovely trick with northern lights is to start with the brightest colors in the middle of the light band, for example a soft green or turquoise, and move toward darker shades like violet or blue as you go outward. This naturally creates that glowing effect real northern lights have in the night sky. The mountains can stay in cool gray or dark blue so the lights can shine in the foreground, and a few white star dots make the night perfect.
If you like, you can tell your child along the way that northern lights happen when tiny particles from the sun hit the Earth's atmosphere, that's plenty for a sweet bedtime explanation. You can download the picture for free and print it comfortably at home on A4 paper, and nothing will stand in the way of a cozy coloring afternoon.
