A giant to color: the giant sequoia in the redwood forest
What makes this picture special is the mix of size and calm. The mighty trunk reaches almost to the top edge of the page, while all around it ferns, smaller trees and maybe a curious animal bring the forest floor to life. Your child can not only color the tree itself but also discover how much life bustles around a single giant.
Coloring idea: from dark to light
A nice trick when coloring trees is to make the trunk darker at the bottom and a bit lighter toward the top. This instantly makes the giant sequoia feel more alive, almost as if light were falling through the treetops. Warm reds and browns work well for the bark, since this very color is what gave the redwood its name.
The forest floor can be a wild mix of green, moss, ferns and grasses happily sit side by side in many different shades of green. If you like, tell a little story while you color, maybe about a squirrel living high up in the crown, looking out over the whole forest. You can download this picture for free and print it at home on A4 paper, and nothing will stand in the way of a cozy coloring afternoon together.
