A resting griffin in its cozy rocky cave
What makes this motif special is that there's so much to discover without feeling cluttered. The powerful wings, the bushy lion's mane, the scaly legs, and of course the sharp beak are all just waiting to shine in your favorite colors. All around, rugged rocks and small stones invite you to experiment with gray, brown, and beige tones, while in the background a bit of cave wall might be left open for your own ideas.
Coloring idea: A fur-and-feather mix with a wow effect
Let the kids in on a little pro trick: the griffin is made up of two worlds, so two color worlds can meet here too. Up top, on the wings and head, golden, brown, or even bright orange feather tones work wonderfully, while the lower, lion-like part of the body looks especially vibrant in warm sandy beige or rich honey yellow. For the rocky cave, shadowy gray tones work well, looking much more three-dimensional with a few lighter highlight edges.
If you like, you can even come up with a little story about the cave – for example, why the griffin is resting here and what it might be dreaming about. You can download this coloring page for free and print it comfortably at home on standard letter size, and then the shared coloring and storytelling hour can begin.
