Sculptor Shaping a Dolphin from Sandstone Coloring Page

So glad you stopped by! Today we've got a coloring page that smells a little bit like a workshop and a little bit like the sea breeze, all at once. You can see a sculptor working with great concentration on a big block of sandstone, using a hammer and chisel. And what's taking shape? A dolphin that seems to be bursting right out of the stone.

The Sculptor and His Sandstone Dolphin

This picture is special because it brings together two worlds: the hard, dusty work with tools, and the playful, smooth shape of a dolphin. Your kids can color the rough stone that still looks like rock, and right next to it, the already smooth, polished dolphin skin. Such a lovely contrast to try out with crayons or wax pencils.

A Tip for Two Different Textures

For the sandstone, muted tones like sandy yellow, beige, or a light grayish brown work really well, best applied with little dabs or short strokes so it looks grainy. The dolphin, on the other hand, can look shiny and smooth, for example in soft gray with a touch of blue, as if it were almost finished and about to leap right back into the sea.

Maybe you can make up a little story together: what the sculptor might be thinking as the dolphin slowly takes shape, and whether the stone really does come alive in the end. You can download this coloring page completely free and print it out at home on A4 paper, so nothing stands in the way of a cozy afternoon with crayons.
