Cuddle Time in the Reeds: The Flamingo Chick and Its Mom

There's plenty for kids to discover and color here. The chick doesn't have pink feathers yet, but a soft, gray downy coat, while the mother is already glowing in full flamingo pink. Then there are the long, thin legs, the typical curved beak, and maybe a bit of reeds or a few little clouds in the sky in the background. Plenty of room for both little and grown-up artists' hands.

Coloring Idea: From Gray Chick to Pink Flamingo

Here's a lovely story to tell while coloring: did you know that flamingo chicks aren't born pink at all? They start out gray, and only over time, through their food, do they become more and more pink. You can capture that in your coloring by keeping the chick in soft gray or light gray, while mom glows in bold pink or coral red. A rich pink or even a warm orange works well for the legs, and the beak can be colored black with a touch of pink at the base.

If you like, color the background in gentle blue or turquoise for the water, and let your imagination run wild with the reeds, whether bright green or autumn yellow. You can download this coloring page for free and print it out at home, for example on a regular A4 sheet. All you need then are crayons or wax crayons, and the little flamingo family can burst into color.
