Rat Snake Coloring Page

So glad you stopped by. Today we have a coloring page for all the little nature explorers at home: the rat snake. Maybe you know it from the zoo, from a book, or just by name – children usually find snakes exciting right away, because they look so different from the usual stuffed animals in the nursery.

The rat snake slithers onto the paper

What makes the rat snake special is its long, slender body with the delicate scale pattern that winds like a ribbon across the whole page. Your child can really let their imagination run wild while coloring: sometimes the snake coils up cozily, sometimes it looks up curiously with its forked tongue. So there's plenty of room for creativity and a steady drawing hand.

Tip: Patterns bring the snake to life

In nature, rat snakes often have stripes, spots, or little checks on their backs. This is a great chance to invent your own pattern together with your child, for example alternating brown and beige, or bolder with green and yellow for a completely imaginative snake species. The background can join in too: a bit of grass, a branch, or simply a calm, solid-colored ground give the picture some support.

If you like, tell a little story while coloring about how the snake creeps through the garden and warms itself in the sun. This makes coloring more fun and gets conversations going. You can download the coloring page for free and easily print it at home on A4 paper, then it's ready to start with crayons or felt-tip pens.
