The Step Pyramid of Djoser as a coloring page for little explorers
On the coloring page, your child will see the pyramid's six stacked steps, along with some sand and maybe a few stones at the base of the structure. That leaves plenty of room to paint their own desert adventures with crayons or watercolors. Whether sand-colored and simple or as colorful as a fairy tale, anything that's fun is allowed.
Coloring idea: Getting lighter from step to step
Here's a nice trick for this picture: color the bottom step of the pyramid in a strong sandy brown and make each step lighter as you go up, until the top almost looks white. This creates a wonderful light-and-shadow effect that makes the pyramid look really three-dimensional. Warm tones like ochre or a soft orange work well for the background, bringing that desert feeling to life right away.
If you like, you can tell your child that the builder Imhotep had this pyramid constructed thousands of years ago for a pharaoh, as a tomb and a symbol of his power. That can lead to some lovely little stories while coloring. You can download the coloring page easily and for free, then print it at home on standard letter or A4 paper, and the journey into ancient Egypt with crayons can begin.
