A phoenix rises on an ancient column

Your child can color two worlds here at once. On one hand, there's the bird itself with its elaborate plumage that looks just like real fire, and on the other, the stone column with its carvings, looking as if it has stood in that very spot for a thousand years. Little details like vines or cracks in the stone invite a closer look.

Tip: Combine fire colors with stone gray

Warm tones work especially well for the phoenix's feathers, so think red, orange, and a bold yellow that blend into one another like real flames. For extra flair, add a few golden highlights with a light yellow pencil. The column can stay in a muted gray or beige so the phoenix really stands out as the radiant centerpiece. Some kids like to invent a little story while coloring, like why the phoenix is perched on this particular column and what it might see from up there.
